The Voyage

Chapter Chapter 1 in Building and Managing High-Performance Distributed Teams, 2021, pp 3-10 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract For centuries there has been a maritime tradition that when sailors cross the Equator for the first time, they undergo an initiation ceremony. The nature of the ceremony varies from country to country, but suffice to say, the crossing of this vital line of navigation is a meaningful symbol of progress for each crew member. It forms part of the ritual of team bonding for a crew that works hard, as a unit, on a ship. It is something that is overseen by any captain that understands the power of a tightly knit crew, and it signifies a literal crossover into new waters.
