Corporate Pledges to Black Lives Matter

William Cunningham

Chapter Chapter 9 in Thriving As a Minority-Owned Business in Corporate America, 2021, pp 157-167 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, sparked an immense global outcry for racial equity. Protests erupted across the world pleading for justice and the legitimization of the rights of Black people. Popularly referred to as the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement, this outpouring of support dominated the American national conversation as millions of Americans demanded accountability and an end to racial injustice. BLM demonstrations took place in 4446 cities from May 25, 2020, to November 18, 2020. Protests in American cities to support Black Lives Matter occurred daily for weeks after the police killing of George Floyd. A perspective on the scope of the demonstrations has been provided by Alex Smith, a geographic information system analyst in Tucson, Arizona. His map can be found at www.creosotemaps.com/blm2020/ .
