Making Sense of Cultural Plurality
Ebenezer C. Ikonne
Chapter Chapter 3 in Becoming a Leader in Product Development, 2021, pp 43-63 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract It is not uncommon for leaders to assume that their leadership approach, based on their cultural values and worldview, works in different national cultures. I made this mistake in the early 2000s while establishing a software development team in Bangalore, India. I assumed that my leadership approach—developed in the United States—was appropriate for my new teams. Unfortunately, I did not appreciate the cultural differences between the two countries and how these differences would impact the leadership process. As a result, the leadership process had a rough start.
