Chapter Chapter 6 in The New Employee Contract, 2022, pp 57-67 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract People are miserable at work—so miserable that they’re literally killing themselves. I mentioned this earlier, but it bears repeating: 120,000 people a year die due to workplace conditions created by management. And while that number is terrifying—the Pfeffer book came out in March 2018, meaning that by the time you read this, 360,000 people have died due to bad management as of March 2021—you have to take that number and factor it into the suicide epidemic that plagues Gen Z, with the suicide rate increasing by half in the past ten years for them. Bad management kills everyone, but the end result of bad management for Gen Z may be even worse.
