Chapter Chapter 13 in The Business Manager's Guide to Software Projects, 2023, pp 141-184 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter focuses on the more specific decisions and steps needed to lead the project to the desired outcome. We start off by looking more closely at one of the earliest questions a software project team should consider, “Shall we build or buy the software?” This decision will strongly influence the further assembly of the team and the internal knowledge required for the software. Our main concern in this chapter will be more with the “build your own” model than for buying and configuring standard software. If your project does decide to buy off-the-shelf packaged software, you’ll find that the sections on requirements, testing, and training users are still relevant.
