Getting Money
Ivan Voras
Chapter Chapter 5 in The European VC-Funded Startup Guide, 2023, pp 59-91 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Equity is often the most important thing you, as a founder, have in the company. Any loss of equity is expensive for your future prospects. This chapter discusses cheap money and smart money in the context of receiving an investment in exchange for company equity, the differences between grants, loans and convertible loans, the role of EU funds in startup financing, and the different types of investors and their preferences. It also describes a typical financial lifecycle of a VC-backed startup, and how founders themselves can profit during an investment event.
