Chapter 1 in Introduction to Statistical Modelling, 1983, pp 1-7 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This book is designed to introduce the reader to the ideas of statistical modelling and to use these ideas to demonstrate the unity among many commonly used statistical techniques. It is assumed that the reader already has some familiarity with statistical concepts and methods, in particular sampling distributions, hypothesis testing, the use of t-tests, analysis of variance, simple linear regression and chi-squared tests of independence for two-dimensional contingency tables. In addition, some background knowledge of matrix algebra and calculus is assumed.
