Abstract: Abstract In September 1855, a month before the beginning of fall classes, the “Göttingische Gelehrten Anzeigen” made public what was already common knowledge in the small university town: the appointment of the mathematician from Berlin to the professorship of mathematics at the Georgia-Augusta University.
