Abstract: Abstract Ernst Eduard KummerKummer, Ernst Eduard (1810–93), while preparing Dirichlet’s eulogy for the Berlin Akademie, consulted Peter ElvenichElvenich, Peter Joseph (1796–1886) about their youthful days together. He was told that Dirichlet had combined his love for mathematics with a deep interest in history, particularly modern French history.
