Chapter 8 in Resilience and the EU’s Eastern Neighbourhood Countries, 2019, pp 219-244 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter focuses on a case study dealing with the European Union (EU) approach to the development in Ukraine: the formation of EU foreign policy through the EU members’ interests and attitudes in the context of the Ukrainian crisis. Adopting sanctions against Russia, despite the interests of member states, provided a baseline for further cooperation. The national interest of the member states does not play a key role in shaping EU’s foreign policy positions. The political coherence of the member states is reflected in common foreign policy positions in areas related to fundamental European values and the threats to the European security environment.
