Chapter Chapter 8 in The Flow of Organizational Culture, 2020, pp 119-139 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract How do people involved in the process of creating new culture communicate with each other to explain difficult, abstract, and sometimes still emerging concepts and thoughts? Often, they use metaphors to accomplish these tasks. In this chapter, I present definitions and the structures of the conceptual systems from which metaphors arise. We examine some of the cognitive science related to the role of the sensorimotor-system and metaphorical thought in creating conceptual knowledge and language. Generative metaphor and its particular role in culture are also examined and we explore techniques consultants can employ for working with metaphors and groups to support the construction of culture.
