Chapter 19 in The Viability of Organizations Vol. 3, 2020, pp 321-340 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The VSM is not a change management model per se, but its underlying philosophy provides important clues regarding how to conduct change processes in organizations. This chapter tries to distill some of the lessons that can be drawn from the VSM such as the need for legitimation, the importance of recursivity in reorganization processes and the need to change the organization’s current way of processing variety and its eigen-variety. From this, Chap. 19 derives some key principles on how to design and implement a reorganization process, create momentum and how to deal with the temptation to build organizations around people.
