A chapter in Historians on Leadership and Strategy, 2020, pp 141-169 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter examines how changes in the technology and organization of warfare posed particular challenges for officers of the American Civil War. In particular, it examines the organizational, tactical, and logistical responses of two artillery experts from opposing sides of the conflict, Henry Jackson Hunt and Edward Porter Alexander. The case study gives a window onto the challenges of managing change in a high-risk environment.
