Chapter Chapter 1 in Bending the Law of Unintended Consequences, 2020, pp 1-12 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter introduces the problem of critical decisions gone awry. Critical decisions are defined and two examples that produced poor outcomes are presented, a prominent merger and an early retirement opportunity program. The Law of Unintended Consequences is put forward as the reason behind these failures. Our approach to improving decision outcomes by “bending” the Law is sketched and the overall structure of the book is previewed.
