Abstract: Abstract The decisions made in manufacturing and service settings heavily rely on the data collected through measurement systems. The main goal of measurement systems is to make sure that the data are collected through valid and reliable measurement systems. Chapter 6 focuses on how to conduct measurement system analysis in Six Sigma projects. The measurement systems are analyzed through Gage R&R analysis. The purposes of Gage R&R analysis are to (1) determine how much of the total observed variability comes from the gauge, instrument, or measurement system; (2) identify and isolate the variability causes in the measurement system; and (3) evaluate if the measure system is capable, adequate, accurate, and appropriate (Montgomery, D. C., Introduction to statistical quality. Wiley, New York, 2013). The idea behind Gage R&R is to differentiate measurement system variability from process variability. Several examples are presented to demonstrate how to conduct Gage R&R analysis.
