A chapter in CSR in Contemporary Poland, 2020, pp 3-13 from Springer Abstract: Abstract The purpose of the article is to try to answer the question of why the concept of social well-being is not present in the discourse of economists and indicate the effects of the dominance of the orthodox approach in the social discourse, ignoring the social and environmental context of economic practice. Analysis of the concept of ‘economic success’ related to the content of orthodox economic theories leads to the conclusion that the attempts to redefine the concept of economic purpose have not led to a revision of the assumption indicating its narrow economic dimension. The author argues that the recognition of success in connection with the assumption of the rationality of an individual and the requirement of efficiency does not make it possible to link the superior economic value with the concept of the common good. The opposition expressed in the title suggests the need to rethink/revise the concept of economic success, which is a derivative of the unrest associated with the growing presence of social, political and economic problems in the world expressed within the sphere of influence of the Western culture.
