Abstract:
Abstract In recent years, there has been a great development in virtual reality (VR) technology, resulting in its growing acceptance and adoption by the scientific community as a valuable tool for a wide range of applications. In this chapter, we theoretically introduce the use of Virtual Reality training as a means for organizations to promote equality, inclusion, and diversity effectively. Literature indicates how traditional diversity training and interventions have not been as effective in enhancing organizations’ inclusivity insofar. Despite the increasing scrutiny and investment in implementing diversity training programs, organizations appear to be failing to effectively cultivate the desired skills, behavior, and attitudes, with previous estimates suggesting that only 10% of training expenditures transfer to the job. In this respect, we posit that through virtual embodiment and immersion, empathy will be cultivated and hence the values of equality, inclusion, and diversity will be more effectively promulgated.
