A chapter in The Palgrave Handbook of Corporate Social Responsibility, 2021, pp 1017-1040 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is becoming increasingly prominent since its birth in the late 1990s globally. In China, CSR is developing rapidly, especially after 40 years’ reform and opening up. This research firstly made an overview of CSR development in China. Subsequently, it analyzed the stages in the process: the starting stage, hovering stage, spurting stage, and improving stage. Then the main achievements of nonprofit organizations were provided from the Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs, Alashan SEE Ecological Association and China Social Responsibility 100 Forum. Finally, it introduced the top 10 events of overseas social responsibility of Chinese enterprises along the “One Belt and One Road” countries. It is the main feature that the CSR development in China is guided by Chinese government and supported by Forum 100 and non-governmental organizations. With the deepening of the new development notion, CSR in China will cover more in economy, politics, society, culture, and ecology fields, and it will contribute better to the world CSR community.
