Abstract: Abstract Managing managers requires a number of competencies leaders utilize to effectively direct, deploy, and develop the members of their leadership team. The competencies associated with managing managers contribute significantly to the success of any leader and the organization they lead. As a foundational strategy for effectively managing their executive team, leaders must first clearly and simply communicate their leadership philosophy. They must then provide consistent coaching, mentoring, feedback, decision-support, and in some instances redirection, all with the goal of empowering managers. This chapter elevates the importance of managing managers by providing insights into these various functions, and also provides a number of practical strategies for managing managers.
