Abstract: Abstract This includes a very short discussion of the nature and importance of problems for mathematics and mathematicians. The importance is presented through the philosophies of David Hilbert, one of the great mathematicians of his day, and of Henry Ernest Dudeney, the puzzle master. As to the nature, a simple breakdown of problems into the categories of puzzles, exercises (drill, challenge, and exploration), and open problems is proposed.
