Abstract: Abstract In this paper, we investigate a sport strategic question related to the Olympics final in beach volleyball: Should the German team play most aggressively to win many direct points or should it rather play safer to avoid unforced errors? This paper introduces the foundations of our new two-scale approach for the optimization of sport strategic decisions. We present possible answers to the benchmark question above based on a direct approach and the presented two-scale method. A comparison shows the benefits of the new paradigm.
