Chapter Chapter 10 in Heron Streaming, 2021, pp 147-169 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Heron State Manager maintains the topology states, including the logical plan, packing plan, and physical plan for describing the topology structure. Heron Scheduler is the module that manages the containers and the topology life cycle. It monitors the containers and restarts any failed processes. Heron adopts protocol buffers over TCP as the transmission framework for both the control plane and the data plane. We will capture the transmission packets and parse them to understand the communication primitives. Metrics are collected from each container and sent to metrics sinks. File sink, MetricsCache Manager sink, and Topology Master sink are three typical metrics sinks.
