Abstract: Abstract The Rio de Janeiro’s summit celebrated in 1992 established the basis of sustainable development. The beginning of the eleventh century showed that preservation of the environment is fundamental not only for the consumption the natural resources but also by the direct impact on business activity generates on the environment. From this perspective, the companies have to maintain a proactive environmental stance that will allow them to differentiate against which they prefer not to save the environment. The objective of this research is to analyze the level of disclosure of environmental information in urban public transport companies in Spain, in order to develop an index. To get that, the information on the websites of the 120 companies of urban public transport used for the analysis of contents is analyzed. The research reveals that the urban public transport companies in Spain have much to improve about disclosure of their environmental stance, given that about 77.50% of them have a low or null proactive position not only for the advantages at the reputational level that they can acquire but also for the implications that allow them to be different from those companies that do not show a will of taking care the environment and their commitment to society.
