Encounters

Hermann Simon

Chapter 13 in Many Worlds, One Life, 2021, pp 241-261 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract I have met countless prominent and powerful people. But the number of those who left an indelible impression on me—who “blew me away”—is quite small. In this chapter I relive the encounters and relationships with some of those amazing people. Among them are my late friend Peter Drucker and the marketing guru Philip Kotler. But I will also introduce the father of the jet engine, a Catholic cardinal, the co-founder of McKinsey, the patron of gummi bears, and “Hidden Champion” entrepreneurs from China, Japan, and Korea. When someone asks me who has left the deepest and most enduring impression on me, they will find the leading candidates portrayed in this chapter.
