Chapter 7 in Doing Business in Guatemala, 2021, pp 161-169 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract As the largest and most business-oriented country in Central America, Guatemala presents a variety of business opportunities for business and economic development. Its geographic location, and closeness to Mexico and the USA, provides Guatemala a direct trade route for its products such as coffee, bananas, rubber, furniture and textiles. While Guatemala has a fertile business development environment, there are some major risks and threats that can derail any business development project. While the pandemic has had a major negative impact on the Guatemalan economy, policy makers need to take a long-term view of Guatemala’s potential. With Guatemala’s growing population many consumer needs are also growing. These consumer needs must be satisfied in the short and long run. As such this circumstance presents many business development opportunities throughout the country.
