A chapter in The Palgrave Handbook of Technological Finance, 2021, pp 337-368 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Blockchains have been utilized to trade and record transactions of cryptocurrency for years, but are beginning to impact trade, settlement, and clearing of more traditional financial assets as well. In this chapter, we survey the landscape of trading venues and other market participants in the blockchain ecosystem and synthesize the literature assessing the benefits and challenges of the technology for trade and exchange.
