Chapter Chapter 8 in Africa's Agricultural Renaissance, 2021, pp 237-303 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Odusola demonstrates that experiences from Ethiopia, Ghana, Mauritius, and Morocco reveal several factors that led to agricultural underinvestment, undercapitalization, and underdevelopment. Drawing on lessons from on-going agricultural policy implementation, he observes how fostering learning-by-doing, promoting climate-smart agricultural practices, increasing productivity of small and family farmers, and accelerating their integration into the national, regional, and global market economies would determine how Africa succeeds in achieving inclusive and sustainable green revolution. He proffers how ecosystem approaches to quality extension services, agricultural research and innovation, digitalized agriculture, integrated one-stop-shop agricultural centres, and agricultural financing systems could be game changers. The chapter concludes that the future of Africa’s agriculture lies in digitalized farming and effectively integrating youth and women into agricultural policies.
