Chapter Chapter 9 in Systemic Cycle and Institutional Change, 2021, pp 273-291 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter utilizes the two descriptive tools of modes of change and evolutionary narratives to sum up and compare the three illustrative chapters. In the first section, this chapter compares the labor institutions of the three cases, the three specific patterns of change they exhibited, and the roles played in these patterns by the three channels of change identified earlier in the book. It also uses Thelen’s notion of the modes of change to attempt to compare the three patterns across her criteria. The second section interprets the institutional changes on the national level as portions of the world-system, compares their successfulness, and uses these changes to show the limitations of evolutionary narratives in the case of national-level institutions.
