A chapter in The Palgrave Handbook of Minority Entrepreneurship, 2021, pp 159-178 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter examines why there is a need to support youth entrepreneurship, what support is on offer, and whether attempts to stimulate youth entrepreneurship actually make any difference to the entrepreneurial aspirations and activities of young people. It identifies that the two impetuses for supporting youth entrepreneurship are to integrate young people into the labour market and to support their entrepreneurial aspirations. It shows that support is often for fostering an enterprise culture, to develop entrepreneurial competencies through education programmes and by providing advice, assistance and financial help. In reviewing this support, the chapter identifies mixed evidence for individual programmes stimulating youth entrepreneurship. Cumulatively, there is little evidence that the actual rates of entrepreneurship amongst young people have increased markedly.
