Chapter 18 in Family Entrepreneurship, 2021, pp 239-250 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Within both academic and practitioner spheres, there has been increasing attention paid to the passing on of values within family businesses from one generation to the next. Values such as loyalty, trust, respect, honesty and entrepreneurial know-how not only define the family business’s culture but also enhance its longevity and prosperity. However, we know little about how these values are passed on. This chapter explores role modelling and storytelling in the transmission and embedding of values across generations. In so doing, the chapter underscores ways in which the family business can promote entrepreneurial behaviour through the concepts of the family business university and imprinting.
