Chapter 12 in Organizational Behavior in Sport Management, 2021, pp 127-136 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter covers a wide array of motivational theories. It starts with a review of well-known practical perspectives, such as equity theory and expectancy theory. From there, a discussion of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and Herzberg’s motivational hygiene theory is conducted. A prominent theory of motivation, self-determination theory, is then covered and applied to the sports industry. The chapter finishes by examining contemporary constructs (i.e., authenticity and grit) and their potential application within the sports industry.
