John Astin ()
Chapter Chapter 6 in Measuring EU Inflation, 2021, pp 95-104 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The classification of products is the backbone of any CPI. Products (the term covering both goods and services) could be classified in many different ways. Goods could be classified according to their main component: glass, metal, wood, cloth, plastic, etc.—this could be fairly closely matched to the types of outlet which sell them. They could be classified by price, with cheaper products at one end and expensive ones at the other.
