Chapter Chapter 5 in Energy Efficient Affordable Housing, 2021, pp 67-81 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The objective of this chapter is to review the results of the 2-year Canada Economic Action Plan targeting the upgrading of the social housing stock in Alberta, particularly in its largest cities—Edmonton and Calgary. The research identified eight types of retrofits that pertain mostly to building envelope and technical systems. The results from a stratified sample of case study projects illustrate the strategies used by housing service providers (cooperatives and non-profit housing corporations) and housing management bodies. The programs, managed using a centralised system of fund allocation and administration, affected 700 housing projects with over 20,000 affordable and social housing units.
