Chapter 2 in Focus, 2021, pp 11-24 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter uses in-depth interviews, conversations, and observations of board members, private equity partners, and CEOs to articulate CEOs’ hopes and frustrations with strategy planning. CEOs see strategy planning neither as irredeemably flawed, nor as a silver bullet that can fixing all of the problems facing their company. They see it as a complex process that could be dramatically improved by fixing eight central issues that beset current strategy planning processes and frustrate CEOs. While summarizing these eight issues, CEOs provide numerous examples from real strategy planning problems faced by companies. CEOs expect their senior executives to be mindful of these eight frustrations and develop a strategy process that engages the senior leadership more meaningfully, better leverages their ideas, and coordinates their actions for superior results.
