Abstract This chapter starts with an introduction of the agricultural supply chains and then the need for value addition is explained. The chapter aims to introduce the reader to the key issues that ASCs are facing in relation to food lossfood loss , food safetyfood safety , food insecurityfood insecurity and accessibility, increased demand for food, decreasing natural resourcesnatural resources , raw materialsraw materials scarcity, and global food crisis. By discussing these issues areas of improvement emerge which highlight the need for technological solutions such as agriculture 4.0agriculture 4.0 .
