Abstract: Abstract This article is a scientific and analytical review of the book “Energy Sector: A Systemic Analysis of Economy, Foreign Trade and Legal Regulations” (Eds. Oleg V. Inshakov, Agnessa O. Inshakova, Elena G. Popkova), which was published in 2019 by Springer International Publishing, the part of Springer Nature, in its book series Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems, vol. 44. The monograph is a comprehensive study of the civil law aspects of regulation of foreign trade turnover of energy resources, as well as the system of sources of legal regulation of the energy sector. Particular attention is given to the consideration of contractual structures that are used by Russian companies in the process of international trade in energy resources. In addition, since the current stage of the world economic development is marked by the leading countries’ transition to the sixth technological mode based on the wide scope of new technology (in particular convergent and end-to-end technologies) application, the research emphasis is made on the analysis of the level of innovation in the energy sector as the key factor, which affects the development of foreign trade turnover of energy resources and enhances the global competitiveness of the energy sector companies. The perspectives of the energy saving in Russia and abroad, the processes of reducing energy intensity and increasing the energy efficiency of the economy, the specifics of self-motivation of energy saving by business entities within the framework of their corporate market responsibility, factors of transformation of world energy markets, prospects for their development, including aspects of geopolitics and global energy security are considered by the authors in the monograph. Taking into account the interdisciplinary nature of the problems examined in the book, the author team included leading representatives of legal and economic sciences from the largest universities in Moscow and the Southern Federal District of the Russian Federation. The first part of the monograph examines foreign trade activities and the cross-border turnover of energy resources, involving their conceptual basis, legal framework, and contractual structures. The second part of the book reviews the factors influencing the development of foreign trade in the energy sector and its economic and legal regulation. The third part of the book reveals the influence of international legal entities and integration associations on the development of civil regulation of foreign trade turnover of energy resources.
