A chapter in The Palgrave Handbook of Africa’s Economic Sectors, 2022, pp 3-28 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This handbook provides an analysis of Africa’s economic sectors, contemporary opportunities impacting their competitiveness, and their contribution to sustainable economic growth and development of African countries. It also explores the potential benefits that the sectors [broadly defined as agriculture, industry, and services] could harness from the Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA) agreement that African countries signed in Rwanda on the 21st of March 2018. Particularly, how CFTA could increase the efficiency and competitiveness of these sectors and enhance Africa’s participation in the global value chain. It offers evidence-based holistic analyses of the past and current state of Africa’s economic sectors, with a strong emphasis on tangible and specific policy recommendations for the purpose of enhancing future economic growth and sustainable development. Contributing authors are multidisciplinary with expertise in their respective fields.
