A chapter in The Palgrave Handbook of Africa’s Economic Sectors, 2022, pp 745-767 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter is part of wider efforts to explore the issues of economic growth and development within the context of the benefits of trade liberalization. It focuses on the trade and investment benefits of joining the AfCFTA for Nigeria by highlighting good practices from other successful economies, sectors, and institutional reforms that could improve competitiveness. Specifically, the chapter explores the extent to which the Continental Free Trade Agreement can improve the efficiency of Nigeria’s economy and how the capacity of domestic industries can be strengthened to compete favorably with competitors through government support.
