Chapter Chapter 6 in Economy-Wide Assessment of Regional Policies in India, 2021, pp 155-191 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The Electronics System and Design ManufacturingElectronics System and Design Manufacturing (ESDM) and Information TechnologyInformation Technology (IT) constitute a pivotal position in meeting the demands of the end-consumers and enabling various industrial and service sector activities in the country. The government policies directed towards these two sectors will have a significant multiplier effect on the rest of the economy which has been estimated using the E3-India model. The true potential of ESDM and IT services in India remains underutilized due to weak infrastructure leading to high import dependence. Further, digital penetration remains unequal across India as a result of which its dividends are spread unevenly. Nevertheless, the pandemic seems to have increased the level of digital adoption due to changing consumer patterns and bringing about a structural change in the economy.
