Chapter 13 in Handbook of Environmentally Conscious Manufacturing, 2022, pp 153-164 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Projections tell us that the growing levels of resource use in the industrialized world are not sustainable. In order for the current standards of material wealth to be maintained in the face of population growth, and the desire of many countries to enjoy similar standards, the resource usage levels must fall approximately 80–90% (Young & Sachs, 1994). This requires a radical rethinking of the industrial and social infrastructure that support this wealth.
