A chapter in Connected Business, 2021, pp 291-297 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Hospitals rely heavily on a stable supply of medical grade gases—oxygen, medical air and nitrous oxide to name but a few. Healthcare providers also require mobile supply of these gases, for instance, when transferring patients within the hospital, through gas cylinders. The supply of medical gas cylinders, a business revolving around cylinder rentals and gas refills, is a commodity business with the product subject to common standards. For customers it is a straightforward procedure to change a vendor, and purchasing decisions are purely price driven. We describe an innovation that turns provision of medical gases into a service that adds significant value to hospitals and therefore provides a competitive advantage for the gas supplier.
