Chapter Chapter 5 in Entrepreneurial Activity in Malaysia, 2021, pp 85-116 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Education plays a critical role encouraging student involvement in social enterprises to improve the lives of disadvantaged members of society. The policies and actions of governments, non-government organizations, and industry leaders are essential to the development of social entrepreneurship. This chapter highlights efforts of the Malaysian government and the University sector to promote social entrepreneurship, through initiatives such as the Malaysian Social Enterprise Blueprint and the Social Enterprise Accreditation Guidelines, and the role of private organizations in promoting social entrepreneurship. The chapter discusses institutional awareness, public perception, motivations, and assesses the level of social entrepreneurship implementation among Malaysian students. Malaysia is in the nascent stages of social entrepreneurship; however, education, government policy, and innovative enterprises have created a culture of social innovation generating employment opportunities.
