Chapter Chapter 20 in Executive Education after the Pandemic, 2022, pp 201-209 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Among the strategies for establishing a presence in international markets, the alternatives, ranked from lowest to highest risk, range from establishing strategic alliances with other universities, developing online programs, creating franchises or opening campuses in other countries. This last involves the greatest investment of resources and commitment to the target market, but also greater risks. The University of Southampton is one of the few Western universities that has implemented this type of strategy in Malaysia, which supports their recruitment and partnership engagement across the Asia market. At the helm of the University of Southampton Malaysia is CEO Rebecca Taylor, who is also the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (ASEAN) at the University of Southampton UK. Taylor began her professional career in banking, subsequently completed a Ph.D. and has since combined her academic activity with management in the university world, previously serving as the Executive Dean of the Open University Business School in the UK. In addition to her current responsibilities at the University of Southampton, she is Vice Chair of the Board of EFMD, the organisation that represents and supports the global network of business schools and that runs the internationally recognised EQUIS accreditation. The comments in this chapter are taken from an interview held on April 23, 2021.
