A chapter in When Form Becomes Substance, 2022, pp 3-26 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The purpose of this essay is to explore the idea of a sign, using G. Spencer-Brown’s work “Laws of Form” as a pivot, a reference and a place from which to make excursions into both simplicity and complexity. In order to handle the simplicity of the issues involved in thinking about distinction, Spencer-Brown’s introduction of a language that has only one sign is an instrument of great delicacy.
