Chapter 8 in Social Impact Measurement for a Sustainable Future, 2022, pp 147-167 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Unpacking the contestation surrounding the politics of social impact measurement allows for the development of consistent approaches. This chapter offers a brief history of the existing approaches in social impact measurement in Indonesia. It will show that despite the shift from a state-centred to private sector focus (including the third sector), the involvement of beneficiaries in social impact measurement is often neglected. The chapter will argue for the need to revisit strategies and policies regarding social impact measurement in Indonesia, by further showing the importance of participatory, multi-stakeholder, and beneficiary-centred approaches. It finishes with several recommendations for the government, the private, and the third sectors and discuss how the Sustainable Development Goals can support these participatory, community-focused recommendations [Relevant SDGs: SDG17: Partnerships for the Goals].
