Chapter Chapter 3 in Luxury Yachting, 2022, pp 31-53 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The luxury, luxury tourism, and luxury charter markets are growing, attracting considerable interest from firms and governments. This chapter aims to provide an understanding of the key dimensions of luxury that are tangible and/or intangible and, ultimately, subjective. Importantly, understanding value in the luxury space also requires recognition of a shift in focus from the material to the immaterial and experiential. Following this important shift, this chapter first sets out an understanding of experiences through the 4Es framework of Pine and Gilmore (1998, 1999). This is then followed by a reflexive account of a luxury yacht charter experience. This chapter concludes with some discussion on the importance of co-creation of experiences and the role of authenticity in experiences. It is directed towards tourist professionals, academics and other stakeholders involved in luxury yacht tourism.
