Chapter 1 in From Me to We, 2022, pp 1-21 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has matured into the concept of “shared value” whereby companies advance economic and social conditions while boosting their bottom line and their competitiveness. However, organizations need to think beyond the shared value creation model of “sharing” the benefits across the ecosystem by introducing “ownership” and “accountability” as the required variables that will complement the coordination with a bottom-up approach (resulting in a full “shared” responsibility). Our approach to shareholder valuer is what we will call the Me to We (M2W) principle. For centuries, businesses have been asking the following guiding question for any ideas or strategy, “What’s in it for me?” However, because every stakeholder is important and contributes to business growth, businesses should now ask, “What’s in it for us?” We argue that M2W is the new normal for businesses in the twenty-first century, with an implied switching cost that is minimized by the proven benefits.
