 A Fourth Way: ‘The How’Clare Devaney ()
Chapter Chapter 3 in Panonomics, 2021, pp 29-40 from Springer Abstract: Abstract Introducing ‘A Fourth Way’ as a conceptual framework for the new panonomic paradigm. ‘A Fourth Way’ is based on the theoretical concept of a fourth space, which is presented as a successor to the established and primarily post-structuralist theoretical concept of third space. The concept of a fourth space proposes that we look beyond the binaries and polarities which dominate our current organisational systems, and that we also reject the false consensus of the middle ground, to instead pursue and embrace an all-encompassing and holistic approach. ‘A Fourth Way’ applies these principles to policymaking and is presented as a successor to the favoured neoliberal ideology characterised as ‘The Third Way’. This chapter sets out the literary provenance of third space theory, and the social and policy history of ‘The Third Way’ as contextual background, proposing that expansion beyond the constrictions of binary and tripartite approaches and adoption instead of ‘A Fourth Way’ and its holistic principles holds the key to sustainable progress and continued advancement through the 4.0 age.
