Chapter Chapter 13 in Fixed Income Investing, 2022, pp 621-647 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Derivatives offer to the interested investors, traders and other participants of the financial markets several opportunitiesopportunities when used on their own or along with the underlying asset. The use of the derivatives with or without the corresponding asset allows them to pursue a series of alternative targets with regards to their investment output. In this chapter we explain how hedging, speculation and arbitrage can be done with the use of derivatives, what the conditions to achieve it are and what the risks that may appear are. This chapter exposes the reader to the strategies that may be exploited to achieve hedging, speculation and arbitrage.
