Abstract:
Abstract This chapter provides an introduction to decentralized finance (DeFi). It begins with a comparison of traditional centralized finance (CeFi) and DeFi. Next, we discuss trends in centralized decentralized finance (CeDeFi) and the overall growth of the DeFi space. The chapter continues with a discussion of the interaction between DeFi and the Ethereum Blockchain. We then proceed with an overview of various DeFi coins and flash loans. The chapter then proceeds with a discussion of DeFi case studies including rug pulls, pump and dump scams and regulatory action involving DeFi. Other topics covered in this chapter include atomic transactions, DeFi counterparty risk, money legos, solidity programming language and DeFi custody considerations.
